UNCSA: Peter & the Wolf

Diggs-Latham students and teachers in grades 3rd-5th enjoyed a wonderful performance this morning of "Peter and the Wolf," by high school and college dance students from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Diggs-Latham Art Studio welcomes

Justine Goldbach, art student teacher.

Miss Goldbach is a senior at Appalachian State University and will graduate at the end of the semester. She was born in New York but moved to this area when she was 4 years old. She enjoys teaching swimming lessons and working as a lifeguard with the YMCA, and her favorite art-making processes include pottery or ceramics and painting. Miss Goldbach also spends her free time with her brother and sister as well as with her fiance, who she will marry in June. Miss Goldbach looks forward to teaching art in Winston-Salem or the surrounding area. She will work with Diggs-Latham art classes for 5 weeks.

Spring Art Extravaganza

The Spring Art Extravaganza was a huge success. The student show opened on Friday, March 4 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. People from all over the county came out to view the student art work. Diggs-Latham Students were awarded 3 gold seals.

Spring Art Extravaganza

Diggs-Latham Elementary Magnet School Art Department is pleased to announce the opening of our Student Spring Art Extravaganza. The opening of this show will take place on Friday, March 4 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Old Salem Visitors' Center. The exhibit will be on display until March 13. We have 36 students will art work in this show.

While you are in the downtown area, visit City Market for a look at art work by middle and high school students. Also, Friday, March 4 will be the first Gallery Hop of the season. Art galleries in the Arts District Downtown will be open to the public. You may also enjoy music and other events during the Gallery Hop.

Salem College Fine Arts Center Exhibit

Diggs-Latham recently had 3 students to exhibit art at the Salem College Fine Arts Center. These students were honored with a reception on Sunday, January 30.

This 1st grader, who created the turtle composition shown above her, attended the reception with her parents.

Teacher of the Year

Diggs-Latham Art is proud to announce

Winter Musical Decor

During the month of December, art students were involved in putting together the Winter Musical, "The Mitten," based on a Ukrainian Folktale. Art students created masks of several animals, such as rabbits, badgers, foxes, mice, and moles, for dancers and singers to wear on top of their heads. Art students also helped in creating a winter landscape/backdrop of paper snow, snowflakes and trees. Some details of the background and masks are visible in the photos.
